As promised in my earlier post, it’s the Hello Kitty Doom Scythe!

Not a lot of a story behind this, but I’ll tell it anyway. A couple of guys at the club were both looking to add another Doom Scythe to their list, but rather than both buy one they just split the cost. Great idea, but it led to the question of half to paint it. One guy paints his by washing silver with purple while the other has areas of silver and other sections red. Some kind of compromise was required, so they ended up both agreeing that a Hello Kitty pink paint scheme would work well with both forces.

So there you have it. Pictured above we have the Hello Kitty Doom Scythe at the front, Kai’s in the back, Steve’s on the right flank and mine on the left.

Got my fourth game of 6th Edition 40k last night, and finally managed to win a game. Here’s hoping there are plenty more wins where that one came from.

The game was 2500pts against Dark Eldar with Dawn of War deployment and the Big Guns mission type.

First two turns went well, in no small part to luck. Having seized the initiative my opponent set his sights on my Monolith, Command Barge and C’tan, but thanks to some decent dice results all three survived. True my Barge was immobilised and my C’tan down to one wound, but I’d not conceded first blood and my Monolith had escaped without a scratch.

With the Dark Eldar now at mid-range it became a shooting gallery for my Necrons, who tore apart Hellions, Scourges and a Ravager with shooting, then assault from my Scarabs and C’tan took out two Raiders and in the case of the Scarabs destroyed the unit inside as there was no room to escape.

With this strong start things were looking good, and by the time we were moving in to turn 3 I was getting overconfident and started to think of the rest of the game as a mopping up operation. I was punished for this when his flyer nearly eliminated a squad of Warriors, forcing them to flee off the board, and Vect and his Incubi leapt from their Raider to wipe another big Warrior squad.

His Incubi proved to be particularly hard to kill, with Feel No Pain and close to an artefact giving them a 4+ invulnerable it took most of my army’s firepower just to kill a handful. The survivors rolled into my Overlord and his Immortals and after two rounds of fighting forced them to flee and chased them down when they ran.

I’d been pushed back on the defensive, and the game eventually went on a full 7 turns. By the end I could only hold a single objective, which along with First Blood and Linebreaker gave me 5VP. The Dark Eldar had slain my Warlord and also managed Linebreaker making the final score 5vp-2vp.

This game was my first use of a flyer, in this case a Doom Scythe, which was a lot of fun but mostly used to take out my opponent’s flyer. I’m planning on using it as a Night Scythe next game and will see how that serves me.

Speaking of Necron flyers, a couple of guys at the club decided to split the cost of a Doom Scythe, but couldn’t decide which colour scheme to use. So, in the end, they decided to paint it as Hello Kitty. Seriously. I’ve got photos of that which I’ll aim to post up later today or some time tomorrow.

It was a good turnout at the club last night, with 4 tables on the go. I had to head off for my train before they were over, but got some in-progress photos.

First we’ve got Eldar and Dark Eldar taking on Chaos and Dark Eldar. Oh, those treacherous Dark Eldar. It looked like things were going pretty well for the Eldar, I don’t think the game was far from over when I left as waves of skimmers rushed over the battlefield working divide and conquer against Chaos.

Secondly there’s Necron and Guard taking on a team of Orks and Space Marines. Didn’t get much of a look the, but things seemed to be going well for the Necrons and Guard who had brought 3 Doom Scythes and a few Leman Russ!

Last up we’ve got Fantasy! One of our Fantasy veterans, playing High Elves, was doing an intro game against Skaven. Fantasy games always look fantastic, I’d struggle to say who was looking best off there as I only got a quick look but after a brief chat it sounded like they were both enjoying it.

Decided to give my Necrons a break, and try out some of the new psychic powers in 6th Ed. I did consider rolling out my Ulthwe Eldar, but I’ve been having an urge to use my Chaos list for a while so brought that along instead, taking on a force of Imperial Guard.

The list uses the Space Wolves codex so that I can use Terminators as troops, but I’ve converted, green-stuffed and begun painting them as Slaaneshi renegades. For 2000 pts I brought along Logan Grimnar, 2 Rune Priests and a Wolf Lord as my HQ, 2 units of Terminators for troops, 3 Dreadnoughts in my elites slots and a Land Raider for heavy support. The game was Hammer and Anvil (long deployment) and Crusade (standard objectives).

To put it simply, things did not go well! The first few turns my good armour saves kept me alive, but from turn 3 things turned against me. My opponent started blasting up my armour, and my Terminators came into the killing range of a LOT of focused firepower.

Foot slogging across the table like I did was a mistake, if I was planning to do that again I’d need to bring a lot more Terminators instead of armour. Ideally I’d like to try putting my guys in drop pods and firing straight at the enemy.

For some reason 6th Edition just isn’t working for me. I think part of it is that I’ve only p,ayes a few games. On top of that my armies weren’t particularly optimised in 5th, and they’re definitely not set up appropriately for 6th. Of course this all works nicely to Games Workshop’s advantage; I want to buy a lot of new models!
