Everyone play all the games

Excitement abounds

Books on the shelves

Terrain, must build more terrain

A rulebook of my very own

As well as some great games of 5th Edition there was plenty of banter, hanging about and even a bit of terrain building on the go.

And lets not forget the 6th Edition rulebooks!

A few shots from the 5th Edition games we played in the run-up to the midnight launch of 6th.

These are a few random shots I took from the tournament showing a bunch of different games that were going on. Enjoy!

My final battle of the tournament was against Imperial Guard, and this was a close one!

One objective each, I started confident that I could hold mine and contest his. Sadly this confidence turned to carelessness and I didn’t hold back my Warriors where they could advance from behind cover onto my objective in the last turn. My opponent took full advantage of this and destroyed them with artillery, forcing me to play for a wipeout victory over him.

The Crypteks, who had been pretty fail in their game against Sisters, recovered their earlier ability and started blowing up tanks from the word go! Scarabs helped finish off any tanks that proved too resilient for the Eldritch Lances to take out by themselves, and the C’tan avenged my Warriors by scrapping his artillery. At that stage we were on turn 5, and only an injured squad of Guardsmen remained at his objective, which my C’tan was in range to contest. At least I would be in range to contest for the draw!

It all came down to the shooting at my C’tan, and with two wounds left he failed both his invulnerable saves leaving the Guardsmen holding the objective and the game over.

This was game 2 on Thursday, against Sisters of Battle.

Things went less well, I got rushed early by a squad of Repentia and Celestine. Though I managed to see them off after losing my Warriors and Scarabs, Celesitne kept returning to hold me up and stop me reaching the main group of Sisters!

I was eventually wiped out, losing 4kp-2kp :( I would have gotten away with it too, if it hadn’t been for that pesky Celestine and her own version or Reanimaion Protocols!

First set of photos from Thursday’s “goodbye to 5th Edition” tournament. These are from my first game, against Grey Knights.

Destruction Crypteks did a quality job; shooting down the Stormraven the first turn, tearing apart the Terminators turn 2 and blowing helping clean up in turns 3 and 4.

Final score was 5kp-1kp, I lost my Scarabs holding his infantry up in combat long enough for my shooting squads to get into position and finish him off, annihilating the last of them in turn 4. A good start to the tournament!

I’ve got more photos from my other games, as well as the store’s midnight 40k launch, to come later.

Here’s a handful of shots from my latest Fantasy campaign game. Sadly not many photos, my camera was acting up.

I’ve been playing 40k the last month or so, and came back to the campaign with a game against a rival Dark Elf faction. Given that I’d won somewhere in the region of my last 6 Fantasy games he was keen to end my winning streak, but when the dust settled it turned out I’d managed to do it again with a killpoint score in the region of 1250kp for me and 800kp for him.

A good game, the action really all happened in turn 4, with the first 3 turns being devoted to manoeuvring and trying to get position. Things looked close right up until the end, but a good charge by my Cold One Knights took out his Corsairs, and my Hydra managed to show up to help my Spearmen finish off his Spearmen.

Played a game of the Horus Heresy board game from Fantasy Flight with my girlfriend tonight. She’s not a 40k player and also hadn’t played this before, but occasionally humours me by pretending to be interested in the 40k universe. Which is quite sweet of her really.

Sadly she must have learned a thing or two from listening to me, because she managed to halt the advance of Horus and his forces of Chaos for long enough for reinforcements to arrive.

It’s a good game, though I don’t often get a chance to play it so remain pretty rusty on the rules. Like other Fantasy Flight games I’ve played the rules can be a bit convoluted and not always presented in the most understandable manner. This meant a fair bit of flicking back and forward in the rulebook, and even a couple of mid-game revelations. And like other Fantasy Flight games it’s a great piece of kit, lots of little plastic models, thick card tokens, “gazillions” of cards (as described by Jenny) and a great board to play on.

All in all it’s a game I really like, and will hopefully get more chances to play soon!
